Dr. Yifeng Chen received his B.S. degree in optics in Sun Yat-Sen University, from 2008 to 2013, he worked on high-efficiency c-Si solar cells for his PhD with Prof. Hui. Shen in Sun Yat-Sen University. From Nov 2011 to 2012, he worked as a co-training PhD with Dr. Pietro. Altermatt in the Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany. In 2013 he joined Trina Solar as Technical Assistant of Dr. Pierre Verlinden. Since 2014, Dr. Chen became the group leader of high efficiency solar cells R&D in Trina Solar and the State Key Lab of PV Science and Technology of China, leading the team to develop high efficiency PERC (world-record champion cells with 21.4% to 22.6%) and the first inline hydrogenation tool to deactivate B-O complex for PERC in China, this enable Trina to deliver PERC product from Lab to production. The team developed the first 25% large-area 156.75mm IBC cell (with total-area efficiency of 25.04%) in 2018, 24.58% and 23.22% (cited in NREL Efficiency Chart and in Prof. Green’s Efficiency Table) bifacial tunnel oxide passivated contact cell named as “i-TOPCon” in 2019 and converted this technology into mass production. Since 2020, Dr. Chen became the group leader of high efficiency cells and modules R&D and engineering center, lead the group to develop avg. 23.5% p-type PERC and 24.6% n-type TOPCon on 210mm big wafers, as well as high power big modules with 550, 600 and 670W, achieving record champion aperture module efficiency of 23.03% for PERC modules.
